Our Mission

Love God
Love People.

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? An he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment, And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:36-39

What We Believe

We believe that “all Scripture is inspired by God” in the sense that “Holy men were moved by the Holy Spirit” using their own personalities and writing styles in order to write the original autographs of Scripture (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21). It is our view that the Scriptures in their original manuscripts are without error. We believe and affirm that all parts of Scripture are inspired by God as well as fully authoritative for Christian living and practical instruction.

We believe that man was created in the image of God. Therefore, man was created to have a close relationship with the creator and carries intrinsic value. However, man disobeyed God (Gen. 3:6). This disobedience distorted the image of God and completely severed the relationship that he had with the Creator. We believe and affirm with Scriptures that all men from that time on have been born in a sinful, rebellious, and a spiritually dead state (Rom. 3:23; 5: 8; 12-21, Eph. 2:1-6). We have a problem called “sin” and we need a solution that only God can provide.

We believe and affirm with Scripture that due to God’s unfailing love for man He was not willing to leave us in our spiritually dead state (2 Peter 3:9; John 3:16; 1 John 2:2). Therefore, He sent His Son who took on Human flesh and dwelt among us (Phil. 2:8-9). He lived a sinless life. He was crucified on the cross to bring a resolution to our sinful state (1 John 3:5; Acts 2:23). He was buried and He physically rose from the grave after three days (1 Cor. 12:3-5). It is for this reason that God’s solution does not require any work or merit to earn. It is freely offered and freely accepted. We affirm with Scripture that salvation can only be obtained through belief in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on behalf of our sins, not through any system of works (Eph. 2:8-9).

We believe and affirm that there is only one true God (James 2:19; Deut. 6:4). God as described in the Bible eternally exists in three separate persons who share the same essence. This is called the Trinity. It is our conviction and belief that only faith displayed in the one true God revealed in the Bible will lead to everlasting life. There are three persons to the unity of the God-head: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All persons of the God-head have equal attributes and are all worthy of worship (Matt. 28:18-19; Mark 12:29; John 1:14; Acts 5:3-4; 2 Cor. 13:14; Heb. 1:1-3; Rev. 1:4-6).

We believe and affirm that Jesus Christ rose from the dead in His glorified body and that all people who have faith in Him will likewise be raised in their glorified bodies to live with Him forever in His Kingdom (I Cor.153-5, 12-24, 35-50). We believe and affirm that Jesus Christ will return bodily to the earth. At that time, He will destroy His enemies and bring the reign of His Kingdom to earth (Acts 1:11; Rev. 1:7; 19:11-21). We believe and affirm that there will be a final judgment, called the Great White Throne Judgment, for all those who do not believe. The unbelievers will be resurrected, judged, and cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity (Rev.20:11-15).

We believe, and affirm with Scripture, that God creates each person as male or female. These two, distinct and complementary, biological sexes together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.

The Dove Story

The Dove Story

Lonesome Dove Baptist Church is made up of sinners who have been saved by the radical, amazing, overflowing grace of God. We don't have it all together, but Jesus does. We're not perfect, but Jesus is. So each week we gather to worship Him and to lift high His name. By the way, we aren't concerned with what you are wearing when you join us, we just want you to join us.

Our story began more than 170 years ago. In 1846, a large wagon train full of people left Platt County, Missouri to make a new life in the Republic of Texas. This group of pioneers settled in the "Crosstimbers" area, now known as Grapevine-Southlake. The pioneers began to meet in different homes for worship as many more settlers continued to pour into the area. On the third Saturday of February, 1846, a growing group of Christ followers met at the log cabin home of Charles Throop. There they formed the Lonesome Dove Baptist Church. At the time of its founding there were no other churches within many miles, and no other evangelical church between Grapevine-Southlake and the Pacific Ocean.

We celebrate how God has used the Dove, with its rich history, to change many lives and we are excited about what He continues to do in us and through us. By the grace of God, Lonesome Dove's best days are ahead.
